Autodesk Inc. is a leader in 3-D design software is used in manufacturing, architecture, construction and entertainment. Now this company is launching a $100 million venture fund as part of its new business Forge.
The main aim to this fund is to give backup for developing products on a new Forge software platform that Autodesk is opening to developers. Initially, it will focus on only manufacturing.
According to Vice President of Cloud Platforms Scott Reese, Previously to access its platform developers needed to be using an Autodesk app. He also said that now developers can go straight to the lower levels of Forge, it will also combine both old and new software into a set of cloud services that enable design, engineering, visualization, collaboration, production and operations.
He said Autodesk acquired software from SeeControl Inc. in last August and it helps companies gather data from Internet-connected devices they control, is built into Forge.
Last Autodesk launched a $100 million fund called the Spark Investment Fund in 2014 to support 3-D printing.
