Google has released a new update for its Play Movies & TV iOS version app adding support for AirPlay streaming via the Apple TV for the first time.
That means, if you have movies or TV shows stored on your Google Play account, you’ll need the third- or fourth-generation Apple TV running software 7.0 or higher to be able to watch them on your HD televisions by using Apple TV.
There are thousands of movies and television shows available on Google Play Movies and TV, some in high definition (HD), including action, romance, drama, comedy, and animation, available for rent or for purchase.

Previously, the app only let you stream content to the big screen with Google’s Chromecast device. With Chromecast, users select the media they wish to play by using mobile and web apps that support the Google Cast technology — a line of digital media players.
In addition, Google Play Movies and TV iOS update also allow you to stream content in high definition, as well as over a cellular network when you do not have Wi-Fi. The app is also getting a fresh new design, recommendations from Google Play, and the ability to search and wishlist any movie from the Play catalog.
In describing the update, Google writes,
“Google Play Movies & TV syncs movies and TV shows from your Google Play account to your iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch to watch on your device, or on any HDTV using Chromecast or Apple TV using AirPlay.”
What’s New in Version 2.0.7910:
* Apple TV playback using AirPlay (Apple TV 3rd generation or higher running Apple TV Software 7.0 or higher)
* HD streaming
* Cellular streaming
* New design for the app
* Recommendations from Play
* Search and wishlist any movie from the Play catalog to manage in your Google Play account
Meanwhile, Google also updated its Chromecast Audio dongle with a boost of Hi-Res audio and multi-room support.
