Bad news for the Apple users! Your iOS device, which you have considered the most secured platform till now, may not be secured anymore. According to Symantec, a security firm, the amount of malware attacks at iOS (Apple’s mobile operating system) has been doubled this year, while attacks to Mac computers also rose- as reported by BBC.
“Apple is an obvious target for cyber criminals because its products are so popular,” said Dick O’Brien, a researcher at Symantec.
Comparing to Windows and Android, the total number of threats targeting Apple devices remains low but Symantec is seeing the range of threats multiply. Last year, the monthly average of between 10,000 and 70,000 Mac computers were affected with malware.
Mr. O’Brien said, “This is far fewer than Windows desktops and we don’t want to scaremonger. Apple remains a relatively safe platform but Apple users can no longer be complacent about security, as the number of infections and new threats rise.”
Another security firm FireEye also predicts that 2016 is going to be a bumper year for Apple malware and the special target could be Apple Pay. The company recently found that XcodeGhost, an iOS malware that was removed quickly from the app store, had already found its way into the networks of 210 US businesses. It was thought to be the first massive attack on Apple’s app store.
Butterfly, a corporate spying group has developed malware tools that already attacked Windows as well as the Apple computers. This is the company that is responsible for attacking high profile big billion dollar enterprises.
