There is nobody who doesn’t know about Marc Andreessen in the territory of Silicon Valley. He is the co-founder of the internet browser Netscape and Andreessen Horowitz, which is the most famous venture-capital firm in Silicon Valley.
Like Facebook or Twitter, Andreesen was an early investor in Silicon Valley and today he has $4.2 billion under his management, and he has also overseen its investments in hot billion dollar startups like Airbnb.
In 2012, an estimate had shown that his net worth was $600 million, after then it has been increasing year after year.
A short life history of Marc Andreessen
Marc Andreessen didn’t come from a rich family. His father, Lowell, worked in a seed company and his mother, Pat, performed as customer service in a retailer Land’s End. He spent his childhood in the rural town of New Lisbon at Wisconsin.
At the age of 9, he got the lesson of BASIC programming from a library book, and he had grown bored of his TRS-80, an early personal computer by the time he hit his high school life. In the University of Illinois at Champaign he studied computer science where he worked hard; such as, for 2 months he worked 80 hours a week in a computer lab and built a web browser called Mosaic and gave it away for free to be used by 2 million people, it was the sway that changed his life.
The founder of Silicon Graphics, James Clark, saw Marc’s achievement and both of them cofounded Netscape in 1994. Officially, Netscape launched to the public in August 1995. Andreessen achieved $56 million when he was 24. When AOL bought Netscape after 4 years he took a job as CTO.
Furthermore, after leaving AOL, Andreessen and Ben Horowitz formed a web hosting company called Loudcloud. After changing the company name to Opsware they sold it to HP for $1.6 billion in 2007, and in 2009 they both formed their Silicon Valley venture capital firm, Andreessen Horowitz. Within three years, $2.7 billion was under their management though they started with $300 million. So far their achievement is undeniable, today $4.2 billion is under their management.
