In order to celebrate this holiday season and the new year, Facebook brought a couple of new things in its latest update of Messenger app including Photo Magic faceial recognition thereby letting you easily share pictures, along with various color choices, emoji, and nicknames.
Introducing Photo Magic
Photo Magic is a new feature that uses facial recognition to automatically find and tag your friends in photos so that it can be sent quickly to Facebook friends identified in a picture.
On occasions when you take a picture of a friend or a group of friends, it becomes quite difficult to send them to each individual who is in the photo. With Photo Magic, Messenger recognizes your friends in the photos you take and enables you to share your pictures with the friends in them in just two taps. When you share photos over the Messenger app you will see a notice that recognizes faces of your friends who appear in the photo and suggests you send the photos to them.
This is an optional feature. You can turn off the feature from the settings inside the Messenger app if you don’t want to see the suggestions.
The world’s largest social network has been testing the new facial recognition tech in Australia since November. Photo Magic will be launched throughout the world except in the European Union and Canada, possibly due to privacy laws.
Facebook Messenger users can also make a group thread. They can then easily share other group pictures.
Messenger Just Got Way More Customized
Messenger’s updates also include many new customization features for Android and iOS devices. They include brand new colors and emojis, as well as the ability to add nicknames to IM contacts such as “Dad” and “Mom”. You can set nicknames so that your mom can show up as “Mom” instead of her full name on Facebook.
Let It Snow…
For a limited time, this season, your friends’ chat heads will appear as winter wonderlands (if you’re north of the Equator, of course). Similarly, to celebrate the new year, later on, your friends’ chat heads will become confetti-filled. And speaking of snow – there is also a Frozen sticker pack if you’re feeling frosty.
There are over 9.5 billion photos sent over Messenger each month and Facebook believes Photo Magic and other new features will enhance the sharing of those images.
