After developing the concept of self-driven cars, researchers thought that this will reduce the number of car accidents taking place on the roads; on the contrary, the number has risen considerably higher due to perfect driving.
A recent report has shown that these self-driving cars commute by perfectly abiding the laws of the roads in terms of matching the speed limit and various other issues. As these robotic cars are on highways driving alongside the humans where this is no speed limitation, simply by maintaining the rules strictly is actually increasing the rate of road accidents by these automatic vehicles.
Fortunately, these accidents have been merely small scratches and dents so far and nothing extremely lethal or deadly. The programmers are still trying different ways through which they can program their creation for breaking laws; however, programmers are still unsure about ways they can achieve it.
The manufacturers are still unsure about whether their invention is likely going to swerve just in time for saving a child or consider running over? These are some of the moral issues a human driver is likely going to keep in his/her mind whereas a robotic car will not. Even the co-director of General Motors has stated that there was a constant debate regarding the speed limit maintenance when driving on a freeway, as other cars will be driving at high speeds when their self-driving car will slowly travel at its programmed speed limit.
It was found in a recent test drive when this driverless car was travelling from a highway and turn towards three lanes of traffic in. The installed cameras and lasers of the car could easily spot incoming vehicles but still it was unable to take the turn whether the incoming vehicles with human drivers will make sufficient room for it to get to the other side. As a result, a human driver had to step in for completing the rest of the track. The makers cannot afford their inventions to crash as it will greatly harm the popularity of self-driving cars in the future.
A recent study shows that the rate of accidents has intensified recently, and none of these accidents are being caused by these automatic cars. Surprisingly these accidents were caused by the cars driven by humans who are not accustomed to the speed limit of automatic cars and collide against the back as these always obey the laws of the streets.
