For reasons unknown, Snapchat is quite popular, people actually choose to spend their time on it. The following 5 reasons explain why that doesn’t make sense.
- There’s nothing but symbols
There are no proper indications in Snapchat except some of its bewildering symbols. A moon, a ghost, a camera-switch icon, for flipping perspective, a pink box with a number in it, a zigzag with an x — I can assume that’s the flash and three horizontal lines. When you open the app, these are the puzzling symbols you see. Swiping different directions takes you to different screens. These screens offer no additional guidance.
- Everything is hidden
Searching for someone is quite confusing in the app like it’s all other features. The process involves swiping down from the top of the screen, and a username, and maybe even a QR code. Sometimes, Snapchat uses a symbol that’s familiar, like the three horizontal lines, also seen in Facebook or Gmail, but the symbol functions differently than you expect, or in a confusing way. Most times there are no recognizable navigational signposts at all.
- Makes you struggle to find differences between Stories, Discover, Live
Swiping left reveals, the Stories section. But you really have to discover it without any direction. Then you’ll be bewildered again because they are no different from the ‘stories’ your contacts. However, there is no way to know what is a Discover and how is it different from a Live.
- All and Everything disappears
Everything disappearing is sometimes really disgusting. You may want to see some sweet pictures and messages you shared with someone. You take photos because you like them. Not to immediately forget them. You must have the option to choose which photos or messages you want to keep and which you don’t.
- The bottom line
Spending your valuable time learning how to use this cryptic system is a waste, whereas you have Facebook, Facebook Messenger, Twitter, Instagram, WeChat, WhatsApp, Viber and even an actual, analog phone call to get the job done. There have even been active steps taken by other app developers to ensure that the issues which Snapchat has are resolved, one such app is ringID, and if you use this app you’ll see why Snapchat is a waste of time.
