Popcorn Time, Hollywood’s worst nightmare, has made a comeback with the launch of its new web version-Popcorn Time Online. It’s a web version of the original Popcorn Time app that allows you to stream all the movies and TV shows it offers (illegally of course!) directly in their browser using the revolutionary Torrents Time technology.
The app has been shut down and reborn so many times that you can’t even count. Despite the lawsuits filed by the Motion Pictures Association of America (MPAA), Popcorn Time couldn’t be slowed down. And the Popcorn Time Online is the proof of that. Using the Torrents Time plugin the web version allows you to play and stream more video formats. That was impossible with the previous app version as many torrents contain video formats that you can’t stream. However, the days of frustration are over. Now your choice of available content is much bigger and with quality you have never seen before. Also, you can cast videos with subtitles, directly from the website to Chromecast, Airplay and DLNA easily.
Popcorn Time wants to remain here forever. So they open sourced the code so that anyone could potentially create their own version. “We’re opening a clean slate in regards to everything that has to do with enabling participation of the open source community in our Popcorn Time Online, in order to successfully create new projects which will improve the p2p landscape and the open source spirit of freedom,” stated in Popcorn Time’s blog.
“We will share with the public the full source code with the exception of code which is related to content. Therefore, the version which is now released in the Github repository uses the amazing vodo.net as its traffic source.”
The creators are also working hard to build a new MPAA approved version of the site named Project Butter. It’s surely a bold move to keep Hollywood having the same nightmare.
