Facebook announced on Wednesday that it has added a new Spotify integration to its Messenger app. The new feature lets you quickly jump into Spotify, choose a song or playlist, and share it with a friend.
You’ll see a “More” section in chat threads, inside the Messenger. Tap it and it will take you into Spotify’s app where you can search for something to share. When you select a song, artist or playlist, you’ll be popped back to Messenger with the option to share the photo of the cover artwork. When your friends tap that photo, they’ll be bounced over to Spotify to listen.
A lot of Messenger and Spotify users depend on screenshots or simply writing out a song name to share it with a friend. This process requires some additional steps that most of the time discourages a recipient to actually listen. However, with the new Messenger sharing feature, there’s no additional typing needed.
A spokesperson of Spotify told the Verge to keep in mind that this is the integration’s first iteration –
“users can expect further enhancements as we continually work to improve the integration and ensure the best user experience possible.”
