Express Drive, a flexible, all-inclusive rental program that will give Lyft drivers access to cars at affordable rates whenever they need them, was announced yesterday by Lyft and General Motors. Both the companies have teamed up to offer short-term rentals to would-be drivers. In this month, the Express Drive program will be launching in Chicago and will be launching shortly in Baltimore, Washington DC, and Boston.
The program will rent cars to Lyft drivers between one to eight weeks at a time. The cost of renting one of the Chevy Equinox crossovers will be based on how many trips the driver can cover. For less than 40 trips in a week, the cost will be $99 per week plus $.20 per mile. For more than 40 trips in a week, it costs only $99 a week with no mileage fee. If a driver is able to pull off more than 65 trips in a single week, the weekly rate for the car will be waived.
In short: The more you drive, the less you pay. In addition to affordability, Express Drive includes insurance and standard maintenance and offers flexible terms for drivers.
Along with the Power Driver Bonus, tips, and same-day payouts, Express Drive is another way Lyft is treating drivers better, giving them access to flexible earning opportunities without the hassle of full car ownership or expensive lease deals.
