Amazon and Nest went with a partnership and that just makes sense for the future of smart things. Starting today Amazon Alexa lets you use your voice to control your Nest Thermostat. In case your home is too warm or excessively chilly, simply tell the voice-enacted helper and it’ll adjust the temperature. It will be extremely useful on those summer days when it’s excessively hot, making it impossible to move.
So you don’t need to go to your thermostat or find your phone anymore. You can now interact with your Nest from Amazon Echo, Fire TV, Echo Dot and Amazon Tap using Alexa voice commands.
Once you integrate Alexa and your Nest Thermostat, you can say basic commands like, “Alexa, set the temperature to 65 degrees” or, “Alexa, lower the temperature by 2 degrees” and it will do so for you.
If you ask Alexa to change the temperature without specifying by how much (“Alexa, lower the temperature.”) it will change the temperature by two degrees. Moreover, if you have more than one thermostat and don’t say the name, Alexa will ask you to say the name of the one you want to control.
Note one thing, if Alexa is in Away, Auto-Away, or Off modes, if using Emergency Heat or there’s an Emergency Shutoff, it won’t be able to control your Nest Thermostat.
