Don’t be surprised if you find the Google app loading faster than usual on your iPhone. The search engine giant just updated its iOS app with significantly improved search and load times. Also, this update includes some other stuff like Keyboard Shortcuts and Google Now cards.
The major update responsible for speeding up web browsing is bringing Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) platform to iOS. AMP works as same as Facebook’s Instant Articles that reduces page sizes so that they load instantly off of searches. Google says it reduced the load times throughout the app in a manner that iPad users will see as much as 10-percent speed improvement. It may sound like a minor improvement, but the company says it will save users “a combined 6.5 million hours this year.”
Besides faster search, this app is gaining new “card” skills in its Google Now cards, so you can see sports video replays. Also, improved listings for local business and keyboard shortcuts for the iPad are available in this update. From now on whenever you search for a nearby post office or restaurant, Google will show you the business’s busiest hours. And if your iPad has an attached external keyboard, just press and hold the command key and you’ll be able to access a list of shortcuts.
The update is already in the App Store. So, if you haven’t updated your Google app yet, do it now.
