Two months after Microsoft shipped the Hololens to its customers, the company just announced the very first update of Windows Holographic, the platform that allows developers to convert Windows 10 apps into holograms for Hololens.
The update comes with 31 major fixes as well as 20 new features. Of them, some important features like multitasking, connecting a Bluetooth mouse, tabs in Microsoft Edge, new voice commands and pinning of pictures without borders or chrome were highlighted by the company.
Running multiple flat apps at the same time is one of the best features. Now you can run up to three apps at the same time. With the new voice command, you can rotate, change the size as well as move the app. Using the Windows device portal you can now browse, upload and download files. To avoid any distraction while watching a full-screen video, 2D apps now hide the holobar and cursor.
Multiple instances of the Edge browser have been enabled, along with custom Hololens new tab page, tab peek, open in new Windows, and power & performance improvements. The update also brings Groove music on Hololens that can play music in the background. However, you have to download it from the store.
You can now customize the apps arrangement in your world. Even a Bluetooth mouse can be connected to your Hololens. If you want to take any mixed reality picture, it’s possible now. To do so, you just have to press down the volume up + volume down simultaneously. Also, the maximum length of recording a mixed reality video is increased to five minutes. The update lets you share this pictures and videos on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.
The improved keyboard layout allows you to enter the most popular email domain with just a single click. Also, you can enjoy faster app registration and auto detection of time zones during your first experience. And for the developers, an updated “Hololens Emulator” is now available. These are really some important updates necessary for a platform’s survival.
