Apple has released the new version of iOS at its developer conference WWDC 2016. iOS 10 was launched as a test version and will be available in Autumn. During the event, Apple also unveiled several innovations for the digital voice assistant Siri, which now also works with third-party apps.
iMessage & Apple Pay
Apple iOS 10 includes a new version of iMessage. Thus, Apple increased the emoji and multimedia options. Furthermore, users of the service now use stickers in their posts and there is also support for payments via Apple Pay. The company has made its mobile payment service available in Switzerland and France after the United Kingdom.
Another novelty is the function to activate the screen of the iPhone by simply lifting the handset. This feature is already available in Apple’s smartwatch’s new software Watch OS 3. This version of the Apple Watch is immensely faster and smoother.
Apple also went for the Apple Music Interface progress to make the music service, even more, user-friendly. The company added a daily personal playlist in ‘For you’ tab and the new Connect feature to add a social component to Apple Music, which now worldwide has about 15 million paying subscribers. Apple Music was announced at WWDC last year and competes with similar services such as Spotify and Deezer.
Apple announced to open its digital voice assistant Siri to developers allowing interaction with other applications. So far Siri only leaned on data entered by the user. With iOS 10, for example, it becomes possible using voice commands to send a message via third-party apps such as WhatsApp and WeChat. Issues such as booking flights and making payments are thereby possible. Siri is also available for Mac users.
During the WWDC, Apple CEO Tim Cook said that more than two million apps are already available in the Apple App Store and that there are 13 million developers for iOS. In total, there are 130 billion apps from the Apple App Store. So far, Apple paid about $50 billion to its developers.
