It seems to me that cyber criminals are targeting the CEOs of tech giants; at first it was Zuckerberg and now Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google who also lost his personal data on Quora and Twitter.
The attackers, mainly a team of 3 and calling themselves “OurMine” had managed to gain unauthorized access into the CEO’s Quora account first and later tweeted their activities using the victim’s Twitter account.
This attack was carried out on Sunday, after which the hackers managed to post 3 statuses on Pichai’s Twitter account through his personal account on Quora, before the attack was already discovered and the hackers lost access.
The hackers did not post any message but they only shared short texts for the world to know that they have the ability to break anyone’s password in order to gain access.
Other attacks by this hacker group
So far, OurMine has carried out multiple attacks, including Mark Zuckerberg’s Pinterest and Twitter accounts. Pinterest account of the former CEO of Twitter, Dick Costolo. The co-founder of Medium, Twitter and Blogger, Ev Williams and also including Daniel Ek’s personal Twitter account, the CEO of Spotify.
Besides hacking the personal accounts of elites on various social networking websites, this hacktivist called “OurMine” previously hacked into accounts of numerous celebrities, including Channing Tatum, David Guetta and a few others.
It’s highly recommended that nobody takes this hacktivist group less seriously as they had executed malicious attacks for stealing the database of other websites. It has been reported that the hackers were also involved in various DDoS attacks.
The group is marketing themselves
Moreover, it has been reported that these hackers have recently launched a website where anyone can buy their service for a minimum of $5000. They proudly mentioned about earning $16,500 by selling their skills.
Don’t worry about the CEO of Google Sundar Pichai whose personal accounts on Quora and Twitter have been already taken care of and you can view those deleted tweets in Google’s cache entry.
The hackers haven’t revealed how they had managed to gain access into Pichai’s account. But they had mentioned how Zuckerberg’s account was compromised through the extortion of data leakage on LinkedIn in 2012.
