Samsung plans to continue to roll out its mobile payment Samsung Pay in Europe this year. Through the payment services, users can pay for their stuff using a Samsung smartphone at POS terminals in stores. However, the service is already available in Spain.
Many high-end and mid-end Samsung smartphones that have come on the market since early this year have support for Samsung Pay. To use Samsung Pay, you must have a smartphone from Samsung which at least have a fingerprint scanner and an NFC chip. It is expected that all smartphones from Samsung will be substantially provided a fingerprint scanner and an NFC chip in more distant future, in order to expand the use of the service.
By expanding the so-called ‘ecosystem’ (the number of devices that Samsung Pay supported), more and more owners of a Samsung smartphone use Samsung Pay. The greater the potential user base, the greater the chance of success.
Samsung Pay is currently only available in Samsung’s homeland South Korea, the United States, Australia, Brazil, Singapore and Spain.
Besides extending the ‘ecosystem’ Samsung is also working to make its payment services more widely available. At this time, the service can be used at payment terminals in shops, restaurants, and hotels. A Samsung Pay online service is in the pipeline as well, so that online shopping can get paid via Samsung Pay.
