There was a time when electric cars were essentially bullied out of production and market by the Oil industry syndicate and large automobile companies but now the times have changed. Now that Tesla showed that an electric car can not only be useful but better than gas cars so every car manufacturer is now jumping on the bandwagon to build the next great electric car.
Like a GranTurismo coupe
Italy, the Mecca of supercar makers, didn’t initially embrace the whole new resurgence of the electric car with complete devotion. The only notables electric car was LaFerrari hybrid. Now the sibling brand of Ferrari, Maserati announced that it is working on an electric car which will be revealed in 2020. Maserati made it clear that they are not making a tesla competitor, they are producing something very different which will stand out from the crowd. Roberto Fedeli says “Think of something more like the GranTurismo coupe than yet another upscale sedan”.
The Biggest challenge for the car maker is producing a green machine that is also very exciting to drive. Fedeli claims that “Breakneck acceleration is the only really thrilling aspect of EVs right now, he says — the sheer weight of those lithium-ion batteries dampens the enjoyment on twisty roads. A Maserati would have to be lighter on its feet.” Maserati is known for amazing supercars with character, so they have to find a way to make a car with character minus a roaring gas guzzling engine under the hood. So their 2020 goal seem legitimate because by then battery tech might improve more and make it much lighter.
