Carpooling is a great way to save money. UberPool and Lyft Line are already making it cost effective, but it will get even cheaper if you pay in advance. Lyft is testing a method which will give you a significant discount if you try their monthly line pass and it will save you from worrying about delays or surging prices. There will be 2 types of passes for now; one is for less frequent users which cost you $20 and every Line ride after that cost $2. Then there is a $29 pass which is for more frequent rides, with this pass you can ride as much as you want without any extra cost.
A trial run as of now
This experimental trial passes will only cover the month of this November and you will have to get it before October 31st. But these passes are really limited in quantity and you can commute between Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, San Diego and Washington, DC.
This announcement came after Uber started a same kind of service in New York at a price of $79, which gave customers unlimited UberPool rides for a month. It not clear how Lyft was able to give what they are giving compared to their biggest rival Uber but surely they want to get as many riders as possible to kick in economies of scale. This transit model may also be a test run for Lyft’s self-driving cars when it will run the cars around the clock with as low cost as possible.
So what are your thoughts on Lyft’s carpooling system?
