After Twitter announced that they are going to kill Vine, many people’s first reaction was why not sell it rather than simply killing the app. After the initial outcry, Twitter management might have seen an opportunity and through various sources it was claimed that Twitter is looking at “multiple” bids from various companies. Good news is messaging giant Line is rumored to be in the running.
Not a total loss for Twitter
This sell will not ease financial woes for Twitter. If the reports are to be believed then the offers that Twitter received are very modest. It’s like under $10 million. Back in the day, it was rumored that Twitter bought Vine for $30 million so Twitter will still lose on its investment in the short run. But it is certainly better than not selling it at all, however; and the company might be entirely happy if there’s a Vine revival that preserves Twitter integration. After all, that would mean more users and ad revenue.
Still a ray of hope
Twitter isn’t commenting, which is not a surprise at all. It’s not fixed that Vine will get sold, and also we have to assume that the leak is legit. Though a sell like this falls apart in many ways. Twitter might not get the deal they wanted or the buyer might get cold feet at the very end. But at least there is still hope that Vine might make a comeback and it is sure to excite its fans who have invested 6 seconds of their lives in Vine.
