In 2014, Facebook bought WhatsApp, a messaging application. WhatsApp was showing the adequate willingness to protect the users’ privacy for a period of time. However, in order to provide the better experience to the users. Consequently, as of late the popular online messenger and its parent company, Facebook Inc. announced the new policy regarding users’ information sharing. Moreover, Facebook will not use UK’s WhatsApp user information. The will fight against spam as well.

Prior to Facebook’s agreement, Britain’s observatory organization, The Information Commissioner’s Office complained WhatsApp users are adequately safe. Then, the social networking site, Facebook decided not to use WhatsApp users’ data. According to UK’s Information Commissioner’s Office, if Facebook uses any data without any legal permission, ICO will take legal steps against Facebook. British Information Commissioner’s Office also stated that they will observe this security related policy.
Additionally, European Union’s data protection authority which includes 28 countries, was investigating both Facebook and WhatsApp . During the investigation, the data protection authority asked Facebook not to share users’ information. UK Information Commissioner Elizabeth Denham ensured that Facebook will not use the data of WhatsApp users in the UK. And she is glad on that matter. In contrast, if Facebook uses information without permission, ICO will sue.
