Reading a story to your children will be more fun as Apple wants to enhance the experience. The company just released a new app for tvOS, which is designed to let you and your kids read together. Named iBooks StoryTime, this app pledges to give your families a “different way to experience classic kids’ books and discover new favorites.”
The app takes advantages of a new feature called “Read-Aloud” that narrates the books while displaying on-screen subtitles simultaneously. This is similar to karaoke, which helps your kids to decipher the words as easily as possible. It also flips the pages automatically, freeing your hands for some other tasks. In case you want to read to your child yourself, you can turn off that feature and go to next page just by swiping your Apple TV remote. In some cases, the iBooks StoryTime also features sound effect and highlights the word on-screen as they’re read aloud.
As a brand new service, there aren’t many titles available at this moment. The collection of books available to purchase is quite limited but includes some classics that your child would love to read.
As per now, you’ll be able to purchase the following books below:
- Meet Tracker
- Green Eggs and Ham
- The ABCs of Cookies
- Chicka Chicka ABC
- Big Brother Daniel
- The Little Red Hen
- Goodnight Moon
More titles are expected to be added soon. You can purchase iBooks wherever you like. With your Apple TV connected to your iCloud account, those titles will automatically appear on the app. iBooks StoryTime is currently available in App Store. You will get a complimentary download of Dora’s Big Buddy Race Read-Along Storybook, which will help you to see how the formats work on your Apple TV screen.
