For a long time, it is known that Nokia is working on a comeback on the smartphone market. The company has officially announced everything is now ready so that feature phones, smartphones, and tablets of the brand can continue to appear in the future.
HMD has acquired the exclusive license on the Nokia brand name for the next ten years and is working with Foxconn to manufacture new feature phones, smartphones, and tablets under the brand name.
The Finnish tech company Nokia said it is not an investor or shareholder of the company HMD. However, it will receive a compensation for each sold feature phone, smartphone or tablet bearing the brand name.
HMD has been producing feature phones under the Nokia brand name in recent years, commissioned by both Nokia and Microsoft. In addition to these feature phones, HMD will now also focus on the development and manufacture of smartphones and tablets. The devices will be using the Android operating system.
HMD will announce later when the first new devices will appear. At this moment, it is not yet clear whether HMD will focus on specific regions in the world or that the company has a worldwide comeback mind.
Nokia already brought its own Android tablet at the end of 2014. However, that appeared only in the Chinese market. Since the Asian and Latin American are the only continents where the smartphone market is growing very well, so there is a possibility the company will mainly focus on these areas.
