The findings of the research revealed how refraining from facebook for a week could uplift our emotional state accompanied by more positivity shown in behaviors.
However, it does not require that users permanently delete their facebook account. Simply by adopting a few changes in behavior like opting for short breaks during usage can solve this problem.
Findings of the Research
The research was carried out at The University of Copenhagen, having over a thousand participants that were provided two conditions; either to continue using Facebook at the current rate or entirely stop for one whole week. Surprisingly, the treated participants showed remarkable improvement in their behavior.
However, the sudden changes in behavior varied from one participant to another due to other factors like, to what extent they have been socializing on Facebook before and for how long they kept scrolling down following a routine manner.
Humans are envious
The most vital finding was how much users envied another either by commenting or “reacting” to their posts.
Surfing on other websites instead of Facebook for a long time did not show any sort of behavioral changes like this. On the contrary, positive emotions were displayed by the participants.
