Snapchat cannot run its operation in China due to Chinese government’s bar on Snapchat Inc. Nonetheless, the government obstruction could not stop Snapchat Inc. However, banning Snapchat will not stop it from putting a dent in China. With a view to focusing on Spectacles, Snapchat Inc. established a technology office in the southern city of Shenzen, though the platform is banned in China. The Spectacles created a buzz in the market. However, using the camera-sunglasses, users can send footage to other users’ Snap accounts.
Snapchat in China
According to CNN, the company already assembles its spectacles in China. Nonetheless, it established an office where 20 people work for the purpose of doing extensive research and development activities. In fact, these Spectacles are the tools to connect with phones, hardware, and Bluetooth.
A Snapchat spokesperson said to Business Insider that “it makes sense for Snapchat to open a small office in China given that Spectacles are already made there”.
Chinese people knew the opening of the Snapchat in China once they noticed a job post on WeChat. Snapchat was looking for engineers who have 3 years experience and worked in notable Chinese tech companies. Moreover, the job listing said knowing English is not necessary. Eventually, the workers may move to the USA and have stock options later.
