Smart light bulbs we use today have to be linked to a central hub, which is kind of a hassle. However, LEDVANCE is trying to do something better with its Sylvania smart bulb. The company just announced a Smart Multicolor A19 bulb that you can control without setting up a hub; instead, you can control it through Apple’s home kit, and by extension, through Siri. All you have to do is just screw it in a lamp, and sync the Bluetooth lighting through iOS’ Home app to light up your room.
“For more than a century, consumers have looked to the brand SYLVANIA for innovation, and this announcement represents another exciting advancement,” said Aaron Ganick, who heads up the Smart Home Americas group at LEDVANCE. “For us, making the Smart Home a reality for consumers is all about quality products and strong partnerships with leaders in the industry. By working with Apple to provide smart lighting that works directly with the Home app, we’re making it easier for Apple enthusiasts to seamlessly integrate quality lighting into their Smart Home, bringing convenience and simplicity to their daily lives.”
Requires an Apple TV or iPad
As it doesn’t have any central hub, it’ll require you an Apple TV or iPad, which will serve as a hub to let you control the bulb when you’re out of range. It means you can turn on lights, unlock the front door just by commanding Siri “I’m on my way home.” The price isn’t fixed yet, but you should see Sylvania’s latest smart light bulb hit Amazon by early 2017.
