Officials made a promise earlier that all of underground subways stations of New York City will have WiFi facility by the end of 2016, and the authorities are obtaining that goal and with very little time in hand. As of New Year’s eve of 2017 every station of New York subway, that’s 279 stations now has internet access thanks to Transit Wireless. WiFi was due for a long time, the first stations got WiFi back in 2011, but it’s important if you either have spotty phone reception or a WiFi-only device that would otherwise go dark.
Full cellular coverage for the whole if subway system will take a bit longer and it won’t be ready till early 2017. Even with all the advancements it will not help you much when you will enter the tunnels where there is most like will be no connection whatsoever between the stops. Between gigabit WiFi kiosks and official New York subway WiFi though, it’ll be almost trivially easy to get online in New York City.
WiFi is now a very important amenity like electricity and water and other important amenities and people always want to be connected so a stable WiFi on subway stations will be very helpful for all the subway passengers
