Uber’s driver screening procedure is highly controversial and it’s not going away anytime soon. Uber and Honda is being sued by a woman from Dallas because her rideshare driver ran a red light that led to a crash which left the woman paralyzed from the chest down. The alleged lawsuit claims that the parties that are involved that includes the driver and the Odyssey minivan’s owner didn’t provide adequate security and also the driver was driving the car without insurance. The driver was previously arrested for drug and gambling charges that should have been red flags, according to the suit.
There is a huge chance that Uber would press for settlement. Historically the company preferred giving out payouts to fight screening-related cases in court. Like many other big companies, they prefer not to go into a prolonged legal battle and garner a lot of negative publicity and other ramifications. Now the real question is will Uber reevaluate its policies after this incident? Now it is impossible to stop this kind of incidents but with more strong step and screening more of this incidents can be stopped.
So what are your thoughts on this matter, do you think Uber is doing enough?
