Produces light by reacting to oxygen
How to make sure that a rocket can handle the intense buffeting produced during launch? NASA scientists recently started using pressure sensitive paint that produces light by reacting to oxygen. So the scientist can really visualize exactly where the changing forces act on the rocket as it simulates acceleration during testing.
This unsteady PSP is sprayed on the surface in a thin layer and it contains pores so air can contact a greater surface area of the paint while traditionally the method was to use tiny microphones, which measured the buffering. By using this PSP testing the Space Launch System will become quicker with lower costs.
