Another day another car company getting license to test their autonomous car in California. This exclusive club is getting bigger everyday and this time the company is Subaru. On February 9th the Japanese company has secured an Autonomous Vehicle Testing Permit from the state’s DMV. With this edition to the list the total number of car companies testing autonomous technologies comes to 22. Thanks to their camera-based Eyesight system some Subaru cars already has assisted driving. The features included in these cars are adaptive cruise control, sway warning and pre-collision braking.
Subaru is trying to develop some new capabilities which is supposed to kick in when the car is upto 40 mph and that includes the ability to auto-start and stop in slow traffic. Subaru also trying to introduce auto steering around curves and bends and lane switching capabilities and also for highway driving they want to introduce semi autonomous driving capabilities by 2020. Its not clear which of these capabilities Subaru will test or test these capabilities at all or some new once. But Subaru is now joining some big and small names on California road such as Ford, Baidu, Nvidia etc.
