An army of autonomous vans and drones delivering things to your doorstep, yes this is the future vision of Ford. Using VR technology Ford put visitors of MWC 2017 in a virtual dinner party, where some of the key ingredients were missing. Then by using a service called “Autolivery,” the woman placed some order through the app. Her package is loaded into a self-driving van, and a drone flies it up to a landing pad on the balcony on her 30th-floor apartment.
For Ford’s last Mile Mobility Challenge, “Autodelivery” was created by Shanghai-based Ford designer Chelsia Lau, Euishik Bang, and James Kuo. Automation of the final phase of the goods delivery project is a difficult process and many other companies are working to solve the problem. Because of the rise in popularity of local deliveries from online sales pressure to develop mobility solutions in urban areas will grow in not so distant future. Services like Autodelivery have the potential to ease gridlocks, reduce air pollution, and also allow people to move about the urban area more freely.
Bang said, “It’s all about making life in the city easier. The possibility of harnessing autonomous and electric vehicle technology with drones to quickly and easily send and deliver parcels could help to make life better for everyone.”
So what are your thoughts on this matter?
