Are you planning to purchase new furniture for your home? You may first like to view how it looks in your home. Pottery Barn is planning to make that easy for you with its new augmented reality app, which is going to launch later this month.
“Our vision is to offer innovative shopping and design capabilities across all Williams-Sonoma … brands, starting with Pottery Barn and PBteen this spring,” John Strain, Chief Digital and Technology Officer said in a press release.
3D Room View
Pottery Barn worked with Google to create 3D Room View, which let you see any of the retailer’s products in any of your rooms. It won’t even be a problem if those rooms are empty. You can add, move or remove furniture, pillows on your bed or couch, and change the color of pillow and bed sheet. It means you can get the view of your fully furnished room before you put them in your room.
Powered by Google Tango
Unfortunately, this augmented reality app will only work on phones that run on Google’s Tango technology. So, if you don’t have any of the Lenovo Phab 2 Pro or the Asus ZenFone AR, you won’t be able to use the app.
More Augmented Reality
Pottery Barn will make two other AR web features available later this month. One of them will show you couch in 360-degrees and another one will let you design a room around a desk. The later one is for the teenagers.
Well, Pottery Barn isn’t the only company that offers AR app. IKEA already announced an AR app in 2013. Also, East-coast competitor Wayfair released an augmented reality app in January. Although it’s nothing innovative, having another AR app to decorate your home will actually be helpful.
