Apple just released iTunes 12.6 for the desktop in addition to new iPhone and iPad updates. With this update, Apple is relaxing its device restrictions around movie rentals in the iTunes Store. The new feature called ‘rent once, watch anywhere’ lets you rent a movie on one device and then finish watching it on another device.
“Now you can enjoy your iTunes movie rentals across your devices with iOS 10.3 or tvOS 10.2,” Apple says.

So, the ‘rent once, watch anywhere’ feature should be ready to take for a spin if you have tvOS 10.2 installed on your Apple TV or iOS 10.3 on your iPhone or iPad. A caveat: iOS 10.3 is still in late-stage beta testing and tvOS 10.2 is only available in developer beta previews. However, based on this iTunes release and previous beta cycles, both software updates are likely coming soon.
Well, it wasn’t impossible before to watch rentals across devices, but it was definitely a pain. As AppleInsider reports, you could transfer them from a Mac or PC to your iOS device, but then it would vanish from your computer’s iTunes Library. With this new update, Apple is loosening the prior restrictions for its users who own multiple devices.
