Wikileaks revealed another highly classified information about hacking tool CIA malware program called “Grasshopper”, which primarily targets the users of Windows. Before reading further, be advised as it can result in further paranoia in you.
What is the malware capable of?
The CIA mainly uses Grasshopper malware for performing malicious activities remotely, such as erasing valuable data and sending spam to third party users of Windows OS, as per its user guide.
An operator runs the installation executable on a target computer running a Microsoft Windows operating system. The installation executable should be loaded into and executed solely within memory
Grasshopper is able to determine the operating system a victim is currently using and the form of protection they have adopted for protecting the OS. The malware can easily get away undetected by any anti-malware software installed on a victim’s computer.
What makes the malware deadly?
If you’re thinking of getting away by switching off the auto update feature of Windows OS, then think again as Grasshopper can automatically reinstall itself after every 22 hours! Scary, isn’t it?
The user guide of this hacking tool by CIA clearly states how it has the ability to use bits of a toolkit owned by a Russian crime syndicate. The more I read the user guide the sound of it turned more menacing.
The best advice for protection from this hacking tool CIA…
I honestly do not have the slightest clue regarding the best advice to give as I am also a user of Windows OS. I guess now I can only refrain from unreliable sources now to avoid Grasshopper.
Thanks to WikiLeaks for enlightening us and also triggering more paranoia.
