The upcoming version of your favorite uTorrent app will run in your default browser. As TorrentFreak reports, this change has been announced by BitTorrent creator Bram Cohen in an interview with Steal This Show podcast. This is great news for both the app and the company as it is recovering from a rough period after hiring outsiders to run the company.
An update to adore
With around 150 million active users per month, uTorrent is still the most popular BitTorrent client in the world. Despite being so popular, there were not so many recent updates of this torrent client. The last time we got some of its best features was five years ago when the service launched version 3.0. However, with this new update, Cohen assures you can expect some big changes.
Besides running in your default browser, the updated uTorrent will offer improved streaming support. You’ll be able to stream directly from your browser. Also, this update will let developers access to more recent technology for adding more features. Surprisingly, you’ll also find some features from Maelstrom, company’s defunct browser.
End users are usually very conservative when it comes to major changes like this. So, uTorrent will take its time before forcing itself on users. Cohen assured his company is going to make sure that the users love it before rolling it out to everyone. However, as it’s a streaming world, people are going to love the fact that their favorite torrent client is also joining the force.
