Amazon quite recently decided to add a brand new feature in the latest Alexa update. As a result, Skill developers can now make the device sound more humanlike with its Speech Synthesis Markup Language (SSML).
What is the latest Alexa update all about?
Its newly added feature enables a developer to make Alexa sound emotional when needed, whispering or even emphasizing particular statements, depending on the choice of the developer. As per Amazon’s statement,
“These SSML features provide a more natural voice experience.”
Honestly, I really can’t find any use for Alexa’s whispering tone unless my house gets assailed by robbers. But its humanlike voice can undoubtedly lead to a more improved user experience. Quite similar to Microsoft’s Cortana, which sounds more soothing than Siri.
Success rate of devices that can communicate with users
I believe in devices that sound like human beings have tremendous potential to dominate the market very soon; just like Duo, a personal AI assistant for your home.
Even though such features will not be added to Alexa; however, Skill developers can still utilize the same concept into Alexa. Nonetheless, I think having a smart device with a humanlike voice could provide emotional support for singles.
