Do you remember Facebook Poke? Of course, you do. Undoubtedly pesky, momentarily ubiquitous, and probably the least pleasant thing, Poke has been haunting us since 2004. And, it looks like Facebook thinks it couldn’t annoy us enough. The social media is quietly adding a new feature called Hello that is quite similar to its predecessor – surely a renaissance no one would ever ask for, not even by mistake.
Get ready to be haunted by the waving hand
First spotted by The Next Web’s Matt Navarra, the feature is currently being tested for some users based in the U.K. And, Facebook Poke isn’t going anywhere. Hello is entirely a new feature that comes in the form of a waving hand.

Once someone says hello to you, you’ll get a notification saying “someone said hello to you. You can say hello back.” Once you click on that notification, it will take you to a page of listing all the hellos you’ve received with an option to respond. You can then keep haunting people back and forth by an apparition of the waving hand until someone gets annoyed enough to block you.
This creepy little feature is available both on mobile and desktop. From the screenshot, it seems the feature is basically recommended to say hi to your newly added friend, but a bit forcefully. Tricks like this surely work on a dating app with strangers, but I am not sure how it will work among friends.
