This morning Tesla CEO Elon Musk posted a tweet and according to which, Supercharger stations of Tesla’s are all being converted to solar and battery power. At one point most of the stations will be completely disconnected from the electricity grid.
Growing demand for Model 3
An announcement stated earlier that this year Tesla will be expanding its Supercharger network by doubling the size, taking their total number up to 10,000 by the year’s end. More Superchargers are going to be necessary because there is a high demand Tesla cars. Especially because of highly in-demand Model 3 cars set to begin shipping by the end of 2017. This is the first we’ve heard about a plan to convert them all before that Tesla stated in April that some of the new Superchargers would be solar powered.
All Superchargers are being converted to solar/battery power. Over time, almost all will disconnect from the electricity grid – Elon Musk
As of last week, Tesla had begun construction on or obtained permits for over 40 additional Supercharger stations. But it’s unclear how many of those will be built with solar arrays. Either way, it is a good initiative by Tesla and we hope other companies soon follow suit.
So what are your thoughts on this matter?
