Bixby, Samsung’s new digital assistant just launched on its new Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus phones in the US. Although the company was quick to boast about its AI helper at the launch of Galaxy S8, then disclosed that the signature voice feature won’t arrive until later in the spring. Sadly the company missed that promised deadline for the US.
From now on, each and every American with one of the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus will get to talk to Bixby. What’s the most interesting part of this voice assistant is that it can easily understand natural language expressions. Whether you say “show me the weather” or “what’s the forecast for today?” you can expect the same correct answer. Bixby also comes with the ability to read out loud the text messages in the smartphone’s official app. It means even if your hands are tied, you can catch up on any conversation. More importantly, it’s better at contextual awareness inside those third-party apps on your mobile, and should be faster to respond to your orders.
It’s not sure when Samsung’s new digital voice assistant will be available in other English speaking countries. Rumors say the company is planning to spread Bixby’s voice companion to all kind of devices, which this US receive surely doesn’t cover by itself. However, releasing in the US is a pretty big step.
