OnePlus has declared that it will soon cease all production of the OnePlus 5 smartphone. Recently, in an interview with Vikas Aggarwal, the General Manager of OnePlus in India, this was clearly explained when he said, “If you look at our previous phone, the OnePlus 3T the last batch was sold out during Diwali and now the product will be discontinued. The same goes for the OnePlus 5, which will also be sold out in sometime, and we’ll have only one product – OnePlus 5T – in the market.”
Compete with current flagships
According to Aggarwal, it seems that OnePlus’ prime concern is to focus on the premium segment, meaning competing with current exclusive flagships. With the release of the 5t, OnePlus 5 has less capability to compete with them now than it did 6 months ago.
He also said that “So as a company which focuses on premium segment, we need to make sure our phones compete with the current available flagships in the market. The OnePlus 5T will do just that, and given this is an extension of the current product line, there was no need for us to raise the price.”
OnePlus 5T no doubt has that capability to compete with the latest flagships. The phone has top features like the Face ID which is seen on Apple’s most exclusive iPhone X, a Snapdragon 835 chipset, bezel less OLED display. Of course, the price of the phone is a reasonable $499.
