Head transplantation- grafting or connecting the head of one individual organism or person onto the body of another individual. This might remind you of Frankenstein, sewing body parts from different individuals and conducting electricity to make alive a monster or rather a person in this case. Dr. Sergio Canavero is an Italian neurosurgeon who has been working on head transplantation for over 30 years.
Welcome to heaven (HEad Anastomosis VENture) project of horror. Head transplantation method published by Dr. Sergio Canavero. There are many controversies rising around the procedure. Two group of doctors will conduct the surgery. One group will work on the head donor and other on the donor of the body.
The grafting of the head must be done within the hour. The body donor will reach extensive hypothermal (excessive cold) state. Body temperature will be lowered down from 37°C to 10-15°C. At this temperature metabolic state or the internal system, efficiency will be lowered down to 10%. Humans are supposed to survive at most one hour without blood supply (previously implemented, 1950).
The head will be joined by PEG (Polyethylene Glycol) termed by Professor Canavero as GEMINI. It will be detached with a clean cut leaving core motor neurons to rejoin with the Head with the glue PEG.
The recipient of the body or the donor of the head was selected Valery Spiridonov a 31-year-old man suffering from a muscle wasting disease. But that changed as Professor Canavero determined to conduct the surgery in China.
The new head donor or body recipient name remains a secret. The dark room of science will be decorated with 150 doctors and nurses. The £14 million surgery will take place this month. If it is a success we might see Stephen Hawkins run again or Albert Einstein with a new face.
