With the revolution of smartphones, we also got bigger batteries with fast charging. However, having a low battery is still a problem as we spend a lot of time on apps and social media. While everyone is trying to resolve this low battery problem, an app is trying to make you utilize this situation.
Die With Me
Aptly called “Die With Me,” this app offers a chatroom only when your phone’s charge is less than 5%. Launched this week on iOS and Android, it lets you take advantage of your smartphone’s dying moments.
The original idea was presented in 2016 by the creator Dries Depoorter at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam’s annual DocLab Interactive Conference. Although the initial plan was to create a potential for a romantic connection, it ended up as a simple yet intelligent, anonymous toy.
“We had ideas to make a dating app where you can find someone around you with a low battery,” Depoorter told Motherboard, “and when you meet, the battery [is dead], so you can have a offline real conversation.”
Chat anonymously with the people with the same low battery
It’s quite interesting the way the app works. When your phone’s battery is below 5%, you will be introduced in a chatroom where can chat with other people with the low battery. You can see their battery percentages next to their chats. It’s technically an anonymous chatroom where you will chat using a nickname.
“We wanted to do something positive with a low battery,” said Depoorter. The concept of a chatroom came later. “And now we see people happy with a low battery having low battery conversations. We had so much fun creating this.”
To me, this seems to be a fun app. While most of us have low battery anxiety, it’s good to know that someone has found a way to deal with this situation in an interesting and fun way.
