Motherboard‘s documentary The Most Unknown which is about “the biggest questions in science,” will air on Netflix after Vice’s debut theatrical run. Where life originated, the definition of consciousness, what dark matter is made of, this kind of topics will be handled by nine scientists who are sent around the world to get answers. “The film is an experiment, one in which we posited that by tossing scientists who’d never met into a petri dish of our own design, we’d learn something about what it means to dedicate one’s life to questions we’re not yet sure we can answer.” – Motherboard.
Ahead of its August premiere on Netflix, on May 18th the documentary will get a limited theatrical release. Netflix will exclusively run this documentary for the next two years. But according to Vice’s plan two weeks after the streaming debut they will submit segments of the film on the Motherboard site proper, in addition to Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter and YouTube.
This isn’t Vice and Netflix’s first fling. That’d be Jim and Andy: The Great Beyond, about Jim Carrey’s method performance in the Andy Kaufman biopic The Man in the Moon but it is a bit surprising that HBOdidnt get any action because they had a succesful awrwinning run with Vice Weekly News.
