LG’s latest offering and addition in its flagship G series and the first release of the year 2018 was announced at a conference in New York. It is said to compete with the Galaxy S9, Google’s Pixel 2 and the iPhone 8 Plus. Let us look into all the details you need to know about this upcoming smartphone :
Design & display
This is definitely a pleasant upgrade from last year’s 5.7-inch screen. It has a stylish glass body that comes with many color options: Raspberry Rose, New Moroccan Blue, New Aurora Black, and New Platinum Gray.
The screen really stands out due to its longer size and Super Bright Display mode that increases the screen brightness to 1,000 nits. Compared to conventional 500-600 nits, this 1000 nit screen will be super helpful for outdoors.
Along with the power button on the right and fingerprint sensor at the rear, there is a new button on the left for AI applications. This new AI button powers Google Assistant and the phone camera. The button enables calls with a single press for Google Assistant or double press for Google Lens.
Waterproof IP68 and Boombox speakers
The phone design is IP68 water-resistant which prevents water damage and dust. IP68 guarantees to survive at least up to 1.5m under water for 30 minutes. It also, includes a 3.5mm headphone jack.
The LG G7 ThinQ has one large speaker called the Boombox Speaker. It is said to provide 10x the resonance compared to typical phone models with a louder audio and deeper bass.
There are also powerful microphones with far field voice recognition, acts as a smart speaker, which complements the Google Assistant.
Camera & Battery
Dual-lens 16MP rear cameras and Upgraded 8MP front-facing camera
LG G7 ThinQ comprises of two vertically stacked 16MP camera located on the rear of the phone. They are both equipped with OIS and AI scene recognition software. The AI enabled camera is supposed to switch modes based on the subject it sees and then adjusts the color filters and brightness accordingly.
The battery of ThinQ has 3,000mAh capacity and is supposed to provide all-day battery life. This battery is much smaller than the G6. This feature is slightly alarming but one has to see how many hours the phone would last, but it does have QuickCharge 3.0 and wireless charging to boot, as its back-up plan
Power and storage
Powered by the Snapdragon 845 chip and Android Oreo
The newest Qualcomm chipset, the Snapdragon 845 comes in the ThinQ model. Also if you upgrade to the LG G7, you are welcomed with the Android Oreo, Google’s latest version of the operating system
4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, microSD card slot
The phone boasts of a 4GB RAM and 64 GB of internal storage alongwith microSD storage.
Release details and thoughts
Though released much later than its competitors which are already launched in the market, just means that LG has more to prove. We will have to see how LG takes on its AI-focused smartphone, LG G7 ThinQ.It is believed to release by mid-May in Korea and June in the United States and other countries. The price might be slightly higher than the G6 which was $650.It might be expensive but not as much as some other flagships such as the iPhone X or Samsung Galaxy S9
