“Through Exodus, we are excited to be supporting underlying protocols such as Bitcoin, Lightning Networks, Ethereum, Dfinity, and more” Phil Chen.
HTC is working on developing a new Android phone that will be powered by blockchain technology. Blockchain encryption is the security technology that forms the base of cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum. The phone named Exodus will feature a universal wallet and a built-in secure hardware enclave. The company plans to create a native blockchain network with each Exodus handset acting as unique nodes to facilitate cryptocurrency trading among the phone users. HTC has appointed Phil Chen, the creator of Vive, HTC’s very own VR headset, back on this new project.
Security over regular handsets
HTC is building the Exodus as a handset that will secure user privacy and data especially currencies stored in the device rather than the cloud. The cloud is more vulnerable to hacking. Each device will be blockchain encrypted, meaning it will be impossible to break into anyone’s phone data. The wallet will enable p2p communication and trading of cryptocurrency for users on the phone’s network, without charging mining fees. HTC’s brilliant move comes at a time when it is needed the most, especially with scrutiny for security and data privacy with Facebook’s Cambridge Analytica scandal.
The Exodus will support decentralized applications (DApps), run on Android software and have a universal wallet for storing your digital currencies. The team at HTC wants to expose the whole user base to Ethereum, ERC tokens, and DApps. They want to help Ethereum DApps with a great mobile user experience. “It will enable a completely new class and paradigm of interactions, from games to messaging to wallets.” This connection of HTC with DApps will make the apps very popular.
Although the price of Exodus is still to be decided, HTC will accept cryptocurrency as a form of payment when the phone releases. However, it is yet to be seen what these phones can offer to improve the experience of cryptocurrency and DApp amongst users over the regular smartphones. The unique selling point of a blockchain smartphone is that it offers improved security and user experience.
