Chinese multinational electronics corporation, TCL brought a high-end smartphone, BlackBerry Key2. TCL unveiled the new premium phone in the USA on Thursday. In the spring of last year, TCL launched BlackBerry KeyOne. In fact, BlackBerry Key2 is an upgraded version to the BlackBerry KeyOne.
The new BlackBerry, BlackBerry Key2 is slimmer in design and lighter in weight than those of the previous phone, BlackBerry KeyOne. Moreover, BlackBerry Key2 has a larger screen which is 4.5 inch and a larger physical keyboard. The screen is almost edge-to-edge. However, BlackBerry Key2 runs on Alphabet Inc’s popular Android operating system.
On the other hand, the release of the BlackBerry Key2 has a political aspect as well. Reuters reported that “amid tensions between Washington and Beijing over the sale of Chinese telecommunications equipment in the United States. The U.S. government and lawmakers have sought to limit sales of phones by larger Chinese phone-makers ZTE Corp and Huawei Technologies Co LTD. citing national security concerns. ZTE ceased major operations in April after Washington banned U.S. companies from selling it parts, though U.S. Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross said on Thursday the government had reached a deal reverse that ban”.
However, though the name of the phone is BlackBerry, TCL manufactured and designed the phone. As of December 2016, TCL bought the BlackBerry brand.
