Porche revealed on Friday that the company’s first fully electric car name will be Taycan. Taycan means pretty much, “lively, young horse”. In fact, the meaning refers to the company. However, strategically, Porche’s Taycan will be rival to Tesla.
Previously, Taycan had a different name, Mission E. the car will have a range of over 300 miles. And it will generate over 600 horsepower. Moreover, the acceleration range is 0-60 miles per hour in under 3.5 seconds.Though Taycan will compete against Tesla’s Model S sedan it won’t be able to beat the pioneer, Tesla. Tesla’s Model S has a maximum range of 335 miles and can accelerate from 0-60 in 2.5 seconds. Porche Taycan price will start from $75,000. And Taycan will arrive in 2019.
“It’s a nod to the black horse—originally from the Stuttgart coat of arms—rearing up in the middle of Porsche’s brand logo, which has been unchanged since 1952.The prancing Taycan isn’t short of oomph: its 600-horsepowers can launch it from 0-to-60 mph (96km/h) in under 3.5 seconds, and it should travel over 300 miles on a single charge. For comparison, the Tesla S can do 0-to-60 in under 3 seconds in “Ludicrous” mode. The Porsche is expected to have a similar price to the Model S too, somewhere north of $80,000”, according to a Quartz report.
“Our new electric sports car is strong and dependable; it’s a vehicle that can consistently cover long distances and that epitomizes freedom,” Porsche executive board chairman Oliver Blume said at a ceremony in Stuttgart celebrating the company’s 70th anniversary.
