Made in India iPhone 6S is set to hit in the market soon. From the last week, the American tech giant Apple started making iPhone 6S commercially in India at its Bengaluru factory, which is a Taiwan-based contract manufacturer Wistron facility. However, it is not the first time that Apple makes iPhone in India but since last May, the Cupertino-based iPhone maker started making iPhone SE production under the Wistron facility.
Regarding the fact, an industry executive said on the condition of anonymity that “The made-in-India iPhone 6s will be only sold in India like iPhone SE since it will take time to scale up capacity. In fact, Apple will continue with the import of iPhone 6s until capacity improves. Hence, there will be no price correction for the locally manufactured units. The made-in-India iPhone 6s model will hit the stores soon.”
Apple is apparently trying to add more models to the roster of locally-produced iPhones with trial production runs starting soon. The past preliminary runs launched in April and secured models from the iPhone 6 and 6s generations, which (as indicated by Counterpoint) make up to 33% of aggregate iPhone deals in India while the iPhone SE represents 15%.
By the way, according to the Hong Kong-based researcher Counterpoint estimation, Apple lost the leadership in the Indian premium smartphone market in the January-March quarter with Samsung because of its recent launch of Galaxy S9 series. So, if the made in India iPhone 6s hits in the market then it may help Apple to gear up its market share in India against Samsung.
