Imagine you’re on a family dinner or on a vacation while suddenly one of your client emails you to set a meeting. Now, you have two options – cancel your family program or reply to your client that you won’t be able to meet them. Google understands your problem. The tech giant just announced that they are rolling out a new out of office feature, along with customizable working hours in Google Calendar in order to make a balance between your work life and personal life.
Out of Office
A new calendar entry type, which you can select when you’re creating an event via Google Calendar on the web. Once you mark the event as “Out of Office,” Google Calendar will decline any meeting invitation you get during that time period.
Customized working hours
Now you have more control over your working hours. Previously, you can only set working hours to one interval for all days of the week. This new feature lets you mark different hours for each day of the week. Google will determine your working hours using your timezone, as well as prior scheduling patterns, which you can manually change as well.
The changes come as a part of Google’s movement top promote digital wellbeing. Although they seem quite small, the changes will help you better manage your time, as well as fight back against your addictive nature towards technology. The tools are now rolling out to G Suite users, and a broader consumer release may soon follow.
