Baidu is teaming up with Intel to use Intel subsidiary Mobileye’s self-driving technology. Under this agreement, Baidu will integrate Mobileye’s Responsibility Sensitive Safety (RSS) software into both its open-source Project Apollo and commercial Apollo Pilot autonomous-car development programs. Besides, Baidu will use the Israel-based company’s Surround Computer Vision Kit hardware for self-driving cars being developed for the Chinese market.
The goal of this partnership is to maintain a protocol to ensure the autonomous cars are truly safe. Together, Baidu and Mobileye will adapt RSS software to China’s driving styles and road conditions. Besides, the Surround Computer Vision Kit, which consists of 12 cameras positioned around the car, will help it have a complete picture of its surroundings.
Last year, Intel acquired Mobileye, the company specializes in cameras and software for automotive applications. This partnership will be a milestone towards safe autonomous cars.
