According to a Korea-based Newspim report, LG Display has reportedly signed a deal with Apple in order to supply both LCD and OLED panels to the US smartphone vendor for the production of its next-generation iPhone devices in the second half of 2018. The report mentioned that LG Display is expecting to ship 3-4 million OLED panels along with 20 million 6.1-inch LCD smartphone panels to Apple in 2018.
This deal no doubt has brought a hope of light for LG in order to improve its financial constraints. In the first quarter of 2018, LG posted that the company lost KRW98.3 billion (US$87.04 million) following the prospect of losing KRW196.8 billion for the second quarter.
On the other hand, besides LG, the South Korean tech giant Samsung also will ship the majority portion of the OLED panel for Apple as LG wouldn’t be able to supply Apple’s required OLED panel for the next generation of iPhones.
